A rope attached to the belt went through a pulley that ran on an overhead cable. Thus, Douglas kept his practice continue and at last after a hard struggle, Douglas overcame on the fear of water forever.

Ans:- Roosevelt once said. “All we have to fear is fear itself.”

Ans:- This experience had brought a great effect on Douglas. Fear of water possessed within his heart for ever after the accident. Due to this misadventure, many of Douglas’
 favorite pastimes had spoiled, like the slightest exertion, boating and fishing. Besides, he wouldn’t go alone into the water but even he wanted to learn swimming. Many times when he swam across the water bodies, he felt like someone fetching him down and he feared, but overall, he made his choice possible.

Ans:- Douglas was a man of will determination who wanted to get over his fear of water forever. Because he knew well which was introduced by his friend Roosevelt “All we have to fear is the fear itself.” Hence, he wanted to enjoy his childhood dream by learning swimming and that’s why Douglas determined to overcome on the fear of water.

Q22. How did Douglas make sure that he has conquered the old terror?
Ans:- Even hard training and daily practice, Douglas feared to be alone in the pool. But Douglas kept continue his own practice of swimming even after the training by the instructor but yet he feared sometime. He went to different lakes and islands to check out himself. But at last, he satisfied when he dived in the Warm Lake, and swam across to the other shore. After this experience, Douglas cried out with full of joy as if he had become sure that he had conquered the old terror.

 Q23. How did Douglas overcome his fear of water?
Ans:- After the instructor had trained Douglas in the art of swimming, Douglas was still not sure or satisfied. He felt tiny vestiges of the fear of now and then. So, he swam on Lake Went worth. Once when the terror returned, Douglas challenged it, and didn’t let it overcome him. Finally, Douglas went to the Warm Lake. There he swam and the fear didn’t return to make him fear ever. Thus, Douglas overcame his fear of water for ever.
