Character Sketch of Kothamangalam Subbu ('Poets And Pancakes' by Ashokamitran))

These following lines have been taken from "My Years With Boss At Gemini Studios" written by one of the finest Tamil writers Ashokamitran (22 September 1931 - 23 March 2017). He has described in his story about the multi-talented Kothamangalam Subbu how he had achieved second position in Gemini studios due to his hard working and best contribution for the film. Gemini studios was set up with a team of 600 people in Chennai while 1940. It had set up its identity in film production and it touched upon varied aspects. Subbu was a many-side genius and an indispensable man for the Gemini studios. He worked from the bottom of his heart for the studios. Though, he was not much educated but his hard working and loyalty made him identify with his principal or boss of Gemini studios. He used his all energy and creativity for the advantage to his boss and the studios.
He was master in film making who understood properly all complexities and technicalities of film making. He was considered the best of his boss who always helped his boss staying with him. Though, he had many controversies with his colleagues who felt jealous towards Subbu but he never took them seriously. He was a dynamic man with a golden heart. During its golden period, Subbu gave Gemini studios a new direction and definition towards film making.  He was a poet and writer who wrote his poetry and stories for the masses (people). His sprawling (Carelessly completed) novel "Thillana Mohanambal" had dozens of wonderful characters on the mood and manner of the Devadasis of the early 20th century. He was always given side roles with the main characters but whatever roles Subbu played, he acted far better than the main actor. He had a cheerful and charitable personality. He always  fed and supported many of his near and dear ones at his residence. But closer of the story department made even Subbu out from the Gemini studios. He was really an amazing actor.
